[Ben Campbell] (0:01): Hello and welcome to today’s Community Spotlight where I introduce you to local companies I know and trust. I’m your host, Ben Campbell, and today I am here with Rob Clem with Good Deal Magazine. So, Rob, how did you get into this business?

[Rob] (0:16): This was not my original business.

[Ben Campbell] (0:18): Okay.

[Rob] (0:19): So, originally, my thing was sumo wrestling.

[Ben Campbell] (0:22): Yeah. Oh yeah.

[Rob] (0:25): And one of my early matches, you know, I only weighed like 165 pounds, and you’ve seen these guys. They’re big, Ben.

[Ben Campbell] (0:32): Yes, I know they’re big.

[Rob] (0:33): So, anyway, we get going and the guy grabs me and he chucks me and he threw me a little harder than he intended and I went out of the sumo ring and I was like four rows into the audience.

[Ben Campbell] (0:45): Yeah, okay.

[Rob] (0:46): Well, here’s the unfortunate thing. He threw me literally onto his girlfriend.

[Ben Campbell] (0:51): How?

[Rob] (0:54): And somehow he thought that was my fault.

[Ben Campbell] (0:56): Yeah, yeah.

[Rob] (0:57): I landed on his girlfriend. And you know how you dress when you’re sumo wrestling?

[Ben Campbell] (1:00): Oh yeah.

[Rob] (1:00): Really unhappy about that. So, here comes this 390 pound guy chasing, causing a wave of people to splash around him as he comes after me. So, I head out the back of the arena. And fortunately, I hit this door that he was not big enough to fit through. And that’s when it hit me. Nobody dies in advertising.

[Ben Campbell] (1:20): Yeah, okay.

[Rob] (1:21): And thus, Good Deal Magazine was born.

[Ben Campbell] (1:24): Boom.

[Rob] (1:24): Boom.

[Ben Campbell] (1:25): Perfect. Okay. So, I have my ad in Good Deal Magazine. And just before I got here, I just went and did a bid that was a referral. They found me in Good Deal Magazine. And it is one of the largest interior repaints I’ve bid this year, just for my ad in Good Deal Magazine. So, it works. Okay. So, what’s one thing everyone should know about hiring or using your business?

[Rob] (1:51): Oh, the most important thing, I harp on this all the time. Good Deal Magazine is awesome. It’s a whole lot of fun. It’s a lot of addresses for a whole little money. But, until you figure out what to say, doesn’t matter. Doesn’t matter if you’re using Good Deal Magazine or not. What you say is everything. So, we start with that.

[Ben Campbell] (2:07): Good. Fantastic. Goes off a little bit from the one before. What’s unique about the company?

[Rob] (2:15): Oh, there’s a couple things. One unique thing in print, everyone in the magazine is a full page. And because we’re a smaller company, we make direct mail ridiculously affordable. We are just under three cents an address, opposed to doing it yourself, which is about 47 cents an address. So, dollar for dollar, I can usually get you about 24,000 more addresses for the exact same price, as opposed to doing it yourself.

[Ben Campbell] (2:42): That’s amazing. That’s really good. Okay, here’s the fun one, my favorite one. What is your favorite movie?

[Rob] (2:48): Don’t even have to think about it. Doc Hollywood.

[Ben Campbell] (2:50): Doc Hollywood.

[Rob] (2:51): I want to move to Gradyville. I want to be there for the big festival. It’s just the nicest little hometown feel. I love that stuff. Small hometown feel and just nice people.

[Ben Campbell] (3:02): Good.
