[Ben Campbell] (0:01): Hello and welcome to today’s Community Spotlight where I introduce local companies I know and trust and introduce them to you. I’m your host Ben Campbell and today I’m here with my good friend Clay with Square H Construction. So, Clay, how did you get into this business or start this business?
[Clay] (0:18): Moved up here, wanted to be a hunting guide, which only lasts for about 60…
[Ben Campbell] (0:22): Did you really?
[Clay] (0:23): I did.
[Ben Campbell] (0:23): I did not know that.
[Clay] (0:24): It only lasts about 60 days of the year. So I had to fill in the rest of it and God just opened up some opportunities and started working for another contractor here in town and decided I really like construction.
[Ben Campbell] (0:35): And then here you are.
[Clay] (0:37): Here we are.
[Ben Campbell] (0:37): There we go. So, what would you go hunting for?
[Clay] (0:41): So, I was out at Rainy Pass and they do black bear, brown bear, sheep, caribou, and moose.
[Ben Campbell] (0:46): The whole shebang. The whole shebang.
[Clay] (0:48): Yep, it was awesome.
[Ben Campbell] (0:49): Good. What’s one thing everyone should know about hiring you or using you?
[Clay] (0:54): I would say that we stand by our word, and even though it might not be in a piece of paper, we want to make sure we leave the customer happy and solve issues that may arise and just whatever it takes. We’re very easy to work with.
[Ben Campbell] (1:11): Yeah, yeah.
[Clay] (1:12): We’re not one of those people that you’re not. So, if it’s not there, there’s no solution for it kind of deal.
[Ben Campbell] (1:17): You don’t ghost people.
[Clay] We don’t ghost people.
[Ben Campbell] (1:19): Which is so common in our industry. Isn’t that terrible?
[Clay] (1:23): It is. Yeah.
[Ben Campbell] (1:24): That’s the reason why I tell my guys, too, we’re trying to change the reputation because we have in the construction industry, we don’t have a great reputation. It’s a lot of substance abuse or just flakiness, not showing up. I’ve worked with Clay on a bunch of projects, and he’s followed through on everything he says he does. So, I can vouch for that. So, what’s unique about your company?
[Clay] (1:49): I would say unique is we have a culture that really likes to continually learn products and really understand the science behind what we do. So we primarily do the exterior envelopes. So, we’re always meeting with material representatives and finding out what’s the newest and latest. What’s the science behind it?
[Ben Campbell] (2:10): What’s changing? Everything’s changing all the time.
[Clay] (2:12): It’s technology is getting so good and just simple weather barriers between Tyvek and like WrapShield by VaproShield nowadays. It’s just the science behind it and what it can do for your house or building is incredible. And all the guys really like to understand why we use things the way we do it. And so, I think that’s very unique about us is we’re not just there just to throw stuff up and walk out. We’d really like to understand what we’re doing and why we do it.
[Ben Campbell] (2:37): And you’re up to date with it. Like you educate yourself on the product that you’re installing, the siding, the windows, everything like that. But everything’s changing so much. You have to stay up to date.
[Clay] (2:45): Yep.
[Ben Campbell] (2:46): Yeah.
[Clay] (2:46): And we often invite reps out onto our sites just to be transparent. We want to make sure we’re doing a warrantee able job on everything we do. And most GCs are like, man, that’s awesome. We don’t normally see guys like, yeah, you know, trying to showcase exactly what they’re doing to the people that are going to give you the warranty. Yeah. Because if we can do that and if they’re catching something, we want to know it early.
[Ben Campbell] (3:07): Amen. Amen. Good. What is your favorite movie?
[Clay] (3:13): Indiana Jones. The Last Crusade.
[Ben Campbell] (3:14): Last Crusade. Okay. Good.
[Clay] (3:17): My dad played in that movie.
[Ben Campbell] (3:18): So, you’re kidding me.
[Clay] (3:19): Nope. I’m a little partial to that one. Yeah.
[Ben Campbell] (3:22): Wow.
[Clay] (3:22): He was the bad guy in the Panama hat in the first 15 minutes.
[Ben Campbell] (3:26): What?
[Clay] (3:26): Yep.
[Ben Campbell] (3:27): You’re kidding me.
[Clay] (3:28): Nope.
[Ben Campbell] (3:29): Okay. Well, that’s awesome. Okay. Do you know I was in a movie?
[Clay] (3:32): Which movie?
[Ben Campbell] (3:34): Frostbite.
[Clay] (3:35): Really?
[Ben Campbell] (3:35): Swear to God. I was zombie number one and it was shot in Talkeena and they killed me in the first scene. I got the DVD.
[Clay] (3:41): You got the credit.
[Ben Campbell] (3:42): Yeah. I know. So, I’ll show you the, I got the DVD. I’ll show you. Yeah. Frostbite.
[Clay] (3:46): That’s the real thing.
[Ben Campbell] (3:47): So, okay. What’s the best way for them to reach you?
[Clay] (3:51): Um, really email. We have a website and there’s a submission form on there that that’s good. Um, it’s a little hard for me to get that an email. You know, normally I’m, I’m pretty responsive on those pretty quickly.
[Ben Campbell] (4:03): Okay.
